Microsoft Internet Explorer is the most used web browser today. But does it mean it is also the best? Internet Explorer came under pressure during the past year from the new kid on the block “Firefox”. Actually Firefox isn't that new. It has its roots in the old Netscape browser and over the course of it development went over Mozilla to the current Firefox. Mozilla is still the big brother of Firefox and includes not only a browser but also a good “wysiwyg” website editor and publisher and an email program. But lets compare now IE (Internet Explorer) vs. Firefox. Security is of course a main issue when you are online. I think this is one of the main reasons why IE lost over 10% of market share to Firefox. Over all Firefox is safer in code execution and makes it easier at the same time to spot a spoofed or malicious websites. IE on the other hand has become so outdated and unsafe that it is necessary to install a patch every other week. It has become such a struggle for Microsoft that they decided to release Internet Explorer 7.0 mid 2005, two years before originally planned. Functionality of IE has not been improved in at least five years and it keeps carrying age old bugs (program errors). Microsoft calls it backwards compatibility, I call it sloppy programing. Firefox on the other hand is very clean written and innovative to use. Everything works like you are used to from IE and therefore makes the change easy for you, but it has a lot more to offer and once you use it you will love it. Let me just mention one thing that is worth the change alone, it is called tabbed browsing. Instead of having multiple Internet Explorer open for multiple websites you need just one instance of Firefox and multiple websites appear as tabs inside it. This makes it very easy to use and makes your desktop less cluttered. And because Firefox is plugin based you can ad plugins and themes with the click of your mouse. Plugins are little ad on programs to Firefox enhancing functionality of this already magnificent browser. Firefox is a FREE download and is not just a great alternative to Internet Explorer, it is actually a better browser.
