The Mac Mini

No.9
The near computing future.

As printed in the advisor | Additional information

Are you always waiting for the next big thing to come out before you buy something, and when it finally comes out you wait because the next big thing could be just around the corner. Well here is a little outlook into the next few year of computer future, to make your decisions a little easier. Apple started with the e-Mac and the Mac-Mini a move to compete with cheap low end PC's. Apple continues to develop and sell high end as well as low end computers in the future. The PC sector is of course the biggest. Linux is still going to be a more expert oriented operating system. There is going to be a huge improvement in plug-and-play functions and driver development. Windows of course has the biggest market share with over 90 percent, and everybody is looking what good old Bill is doing next. When Windows XP was developed the development name was “Whistler”. The current development is “Longhorn”. The newest current Windows release is Windows XP Media edition. A one in all system. Connected to your Home Entertainment center, XP Media edition keeps all your entertainment in on place. With your remote you are in control of all your pictures, DVD's, Videos and Movies, Music and it also doubles as a PVR (like a TIVO ™). Also included is a party mode with a music box. The future Longhorn version (for now pushed back to 2007) includes all that plus enhanced security features, because of the increasing online threats. So as you can see the big things have already happened and it is your choice of Windows XP or XP Media edition. PC Hardware will continue to get quicker. Intel and AMD (the two leading Processor manufacturers) bring the 64 bit technology (Currently 32 bit) more to the consumer marked. For now there are very few applications able to use that technology and if you don't play high end games you don't need a computer that fast. Even not in the next 5 years or longer. So if you waited to get a new computer, now is the time, because technology has newer been cheaper and faster, and the future looks like you don't have to update for a long time after that.
A longhorn preview version is available for download. >>> Click here to get it. <<<
